Remove Unnecessary Models in MM Maps

Even if you don’t play on PC, you’ve most likely heard of the dreaded ‘pink glitch’. It’s most prevalent on Murder Mystery, likely due to the huge amount of custom entities that are loaded in on all the maps. It seems the more entities that are loaded, the more that Minecraft struggles with loading them, and so it defaults to pink, meaning that this suggestion could help reduce the amount of glitches. So the suggestion is simple:

If a 3D model/custom entity doesn’t directly contribute to gameplay, remove it.

That’s the central concept. But let me elaborate further!
Take Manor for instance - this map has a TON of entities. I’m not sure if it has the most, but it sure has a lot. Let’s take a look at one of these entities:

It’s a bookshelf that is actually able to be walked through - it leads downstairs into a catacombs area. I’d argue that it’s a big part of gameplay, as it leads to another area of the map, and you can’t walk through normal bookshelves. But what about this one?

Though it’s the same model, you can’t walk through it, and it doesn’t serve a purpose in gameplay. If you replaced these with default bookshelves, gameplay wouldn’t be significantly altered.
But that’s just Manor. Let’s look at Office:

It’s a cool modern art piece that lies at the center of a big room. It looks sure looks nice! …But, is it actually important to gameplay? I’d argue that you could get the exact same effect with something like this:

Here’s something on Office that should be kept, in my opinion.

The covers of the vents add to atmosphere and make the map more realistic, while at the same time serving a gameplay purpose of not entirely revealing what’s in the vent, making it more of a challenge.

Now that I’ve given some examples, let’s go through a list of specifics of entities that could be removed:

OFFICE

  • Middle art-deco piece
  • Laptops
  • Coffee mugs

WITCH SCHOOL

  • N/A, everything here feels important to gameplay

TOY HOUSE

  • Toy chairs
  • Grandfather clocks
  • Various plush toys around the map

MANOR

  • Bookshelves that don’t lead anywhere
  • Grates in the basement/catacombs
  • Candle on piano
  • Various vases

ESO HOTEL

  • Computer Monitors

SPACESHIP

  • TV Monitors

WAREHOUSE

  • Various crates and boxes

MUSEUM

  • All planets
  • Various fossils
  • Egyptian relics
  • Various gift shop items
  • Fish

I hope that this gets taken into consideration. Thank you for reading! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

honestly, i love the way the plushies make the toyhouse map look ^^
it adds a childlike atmosphere (in a way, cant word this right lol)

the candles on the piano serve as a light source i think. :000
good ideas tho

I do like the plushies too! Maybe those could be kept, who knows.

I looked into the candles thing - you’re right about them being a light source, but that’s because there’s a torch hidden inside of the candle. By itself, it doesn’t give off any light.

I guess they could temporarily remove any unnecessary custom models while we wait for Mojang to fix the pink glitch.

It’s been around 6 months since the original bug report was made about this on Mojang’s bug tracker website… and we’ll probably need to wait another 6 months before they fix this to be honest. They sure do like to take their time fixing game breaking bugs such as this.

But they should bring the models back once it’s fixed ofc.

I have never had experience with the “pink glitch” because I play with a controller on a mobile device, but of course I can understand that it is not so great when this glitch occurs.
But I think these models shouldn’t be removed as they are part of the game / map design and the pink glitch doesn’t affect everyone. Besides, you have to rejoin anyway if this occurs because all the players turn pink, and you can then no longer identify any players, or am I wrong? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

The thing with the pink glitch is that it occurs when there is a large amount of entities. For example, in murder mystery there are a ton of custom models that make the maps look more atmospheric. You wont see this problem with a lot of other games because there arent very many entities that will continually be spawning.
The pink glitch is very, very annoying for people who would like to play the game for long periods of time, and also for people who run low end devices. I’ve had about like 50 games where ive gotten pink glitch from some random coffee mug. (No offense to the coffee mug). I understand that some people play on controller but the larger majority of the public plays on devices that are very prone to getting pink glitch, and this would help a ton.

I think it’s mostly because of the coins spawning on the map.
Spaceship, Office, Eso Hotel and Musuem would look very weird without 3d models.

I don’t think removing the cups in Office would be good, its great for decoration and it can be even be repurposed to have a use, maybe speed for 5 seconds just for 3 coins?

You’re absolutely right that rejoining is a quick solution, but the issue stems from the fact that relogging will always diminish your chances for being the murderer or being sheriff. It can be irritating to be at a 30% chance for one of those, get the pink glitch and have to relog.

About the second comment, the coins can be a contributor, but in Museum for instance the planets despawn when they’re out of view, meaning each time you go back into the planetarium they have to re-render in.

Alright here we go. As a Switch player, I have never encountered the pink glitch, but this seems like a decent idea. Except for a few things.

It seems that you are asking for almost every non-gameplay entity to be removed. I disagree with that. There are some things that would take away from the map’s atmosphere if they were removed.

Office

  • The middle art thing could go, as long as its replacement looked equally good.
  • What’s an office without computers? Laptops should stay.
  • Removing the coffee mugs is fine. Everyone should’ve had their coffee already.

Toy House

  • Not the clocks!!! No!!! I love spamming the use button on those!!!

Manor

  • As much as I want to explore that beautiful area under the basement, Hive probably won’t make that possible. In the meantime, the grates are the only effective means of seeing what’s down there without falling through. Straight up barriers won’t work at all.

Eso Hotel

  • Well, nobody’s been at those computers. Everyone who was probably got murdered.

Spaceship

  • How did they get up there without computers? How will they communicate without computers? Of course, many of these could just be replaced with one bigger monitor per room.

Museum

  • Unfortunately (not for me hahahaha), this map has a lot of entities. Even more unfortunately (for you but not me ehehe), all these entities make the museum feel more like a museum. Replacing these would be quite difficult. The only one I could see easily doable is the fish, which could just be mobs. Probably. I mean, none of the maps have mobs in them so that would add tons of life.

Alright, remove the fish.

I will be voting for this idea because it is a good idea. But although some entities may seem unnecessary at first glance, they add life to each of the maps. The Hive Team would have to choose which ones to remove pretty carefully.

Or they could go with a simpler solution and make all the entities disappear with /toggleperformance.

Custom models are a big part of the look and feel of the maps and will not be removed. Minecraft will patch the pink glitch and as such, this won’t be needed.
