The Dragon Breath Ball needs fixing

Alongside the Fireball, the Dragon Breath Ball was added to BedWars as a slightly cheaper alternative as an AOE item.

Here’s the thing though: No one ever bothers to use it unless it’s their first time playing and they’re still figuring out how everything works. And after that, they never use it again.

So, why does no one use this item? Well, let’s look at the reasons…

1: The AOE cloud that spawns with the dragon breath ball deals damage to other players overtime, which would make it useful as a way to both prevent other players from getting the user’s bed OR making it harder for enemy players to stop the user from getting their bed.

But, since the AOE cloud also deals damage to the user, it’s completely useless for both of those situations.

2: It’s obsurdly expensive for what it is, being at 48 iron. At that point, it’s better to save up for a regular fireball, which is WAY more useful.

So, how do we fix this item? It’s pretty simple. The first step is obviously to stop the AOE cloud from damaging the user. That way, it could actually be good for its intended use cases. If this makes it overpowered, a solution would be to make the lifespan of the AOE cloud shorter. That way, it won’t be as problematic to deal with.

As for the price, yeah. 48 iron is WAY too much. I’d also argue that 64 iron is a lot for fireballs already, but they also need their fair share of changes, which I already covered in another post.

Either way, I think the best price for the Dragon Breath Ball would be somewhere between 20 to 32 iron. Because as it stands right now, no one is gonna buy this for 48 iron, especially when that iron can be saved up for a regular Fireball instead.

I never buy them, and if I buy them it’s by accident or to complete daily quests. So I’ll vote for your idea, as long as you don’t touch the normal fireball.

all the time.

But in summary, they need changing. I voted.

If you throw normal one at bed then theres no more defenses so use purple and then it hurts them quite a bit there quite good sometimes especially if there trapped or stuck or bridging

Could you translate that from cat nonsense language to intermediate English?

This needs to be changed
At some point, I liked using it, but now it’s just a bad item that’s hard to use and with 16 more iron I could get a fireball

Normal → destroy bed defense, explode bridge, but destroy own bed defense so you lose bed
Purple:

Hurts quite a bit
Good if:
Trapped
Stuck
Bridging(damage knocks then off)

Huh what is this blud

The problem is that is also hurts you, so the number of situations where the Dragon Breath Ball is useful are very limited, especially compared to the regular Fireball.

And for any of the situations you listed, you’re honestly better off just using a regular Fireball since its far more effective for those situations.

If youre far away
You fire at someone bridging towrds your base at an angle so it knocks them off because fireball !y launch them and then they would use their paraglider to land on your island

Paraglider? You mean ender pearl, right? Well, a Dragon Breath Ball won’t do anything in that situation. It deals damage, but it can’t deal knockback, so that wouldn’t really change much if they have an ender pearl. And if you fire the Dragon Breath Ball too close, you’ll just hurt yourself.

Well when you take damage it can kind of knock you off at least in the times i used it. Also yes i do mean paraglider

I feel they should just have a bigger AOE, along with not taking damage from them.

nah I get pretty good use out of these tbh, also it already doesn’t harm your teammates
dragon breath is more useful for scenarios when you need to play passive by block someone’s most efficient path to you - e.g. running on a bridge, breaking a bed, or need to heal

Again, for the bridge scenario, a regular fireball would be far better for that since you can easily hit them off if fired at the right angle. Any smart player could just build straight over the AOE cloud vs a fireball hitting them off. I have never found a situation where I needed to use the Dragon Breath Ball, because it’s not that effective, even for the situations where its semi-useful.

Like, the only things it would actually have great use for would be if you’re trying to break a team’s bed while getting ganged up on, or if a team is trying to break into your bed. However, since the AOE cloud kills the user, you’d be shooting yourself in the foot by using it like that. I mean, I’d say you’re already shooting yourself in the foot by buying the Dragon Breath Ball to begin with, but overall it’s just not a good item in its current state.

yeah so true it’s a pain to even buy it.

I find it useful in situations when I want to prevent another player from going/staying somewhere, like:

  • Throw it in the shop to stop the player from buying items
  • Throw it in the bed so a teammate can break it
  • Throw it at someone camping somewhere

I agree that the price should be lower, but the idea you gave of not causing any damage at all could be rethinked. In my opinion, it would be too overpowered, like you said, and could become a big meta for some strategies (like getting inside the enemy’s bed protection and throwing one in there so they can’t stop you, for example).
Maybe it would be nice if the item caused LESS damage to you instead of no damage or deal damage in a slower time to you (:

Something I would also find cool is if the item caused initial damage upon hitting and then caused the cloud damage, as it currently does. Like a fire grenade: You throw it, it causes impact damage from the explosion (without destroying blocks) and then continues causing damage if you stay in the impact area, the poison cloud

I agree the item needs to be reworked and you got my vote =D

(Let’s see if it won’t be replaced by a new item in season 2)
