Stop intentional shooting of other innocents/sheriffs

Idea:

Have you ever had a game, where you were holding your bow, not acting like a murderer or it is obvious who the murderer is, yet you get shot anyways? This is what this suggestion will try to combat.

More information:

It’s most certainly not fun when you’re very openly holding your bow yet someone comes to you and shoots you anyways. And if you don’t have a iron chestplate, you’re screwed. Therefore, I propose adding a detection system to help prevent this behaviour, or lessen its’ effects. If you shoot someone that’s an innocent/sheriff and not the murderer (Ideally if they’re holding a bow, if it is possible to detect this), an imaginary point or score gets added to your account. If you get 3 points in the span of 30 minutes - an hour, you get a temporary game ban from murder mystery, with possibly harsher punishments thereafter. The numbers are adjustable, I’m not sure what would be perfect for this gamemode.

Now I’m aware that these players can simply be reported, but you don’t know if they’re doing it intentionally in other games too to others, or if they just thought you’re the murderer. The reason for it needing to be a set amount of times ( 3 points in a short amount of time for example ) and not one point is, there can be games where you genuinely thought they were the murderer (similar skins), or they just get in the way of your shot.

This suggestion would help prevent some of the teaming in the game, and would also encourage players to try work out who the murderer is (As it should be IMO), instead of just shooting the first player they see. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this in the replies (:

This is a great idea, teaming is a HUGE problem in MM. Thr points system would ensure accidentally shooting someone (e.g someone getting in your way) doesn’t negatively affect you. Voted.

This would be really nice I get targeted as innocent when I’m showing now but no matter what even when we know who murderer is I get shot like 30 if not more losses is because of that

I don’t like this idea because players could accidentally set off the system if they think your bow is a sword or such. Obviously there needs to be some sort of targeting report system you can flag them for. I would be ok with this if you increased it to like 10 points in 30 minutes or made it so it only applies to newer players who are most likely to be doing this. Because sometimes I just miss my shot and shoot another person and such. I think mm is okay as it is, adding a system like this would freak me out similar to the anticheat. With wooden swords now it’s easier to mess up. If they are repeatedly killing the same person then sure, but I think that this is overkill for how bad the situation really is. I don’t get shot that often (maybe once per 50 games) and I don’t hold my bow.

What if somebody’s speedrunning murder kill?

I’m not sure why a gamemode would need to adapt to that.

This is not a valid excuse for randomly killing players, nor is it something we’d consider

this is a good idea. only problem is what if 2 people (murd/inno) have the same skin?? and what if they aimed badly and shot the wrong player?? if people get punished for this, it’d be a problem. i just feel there could be a bunch of potential false bans from this, but if hive manages it, then good idea

That’s one of the reasons I suggested for it being a points-like system and you needing to get a few of them to be flagged, as I know there can be genuine cases where you’d shoot someone accidentally or there simply being similar skins/costumes and you thought it was them.

I agree with the idea of this being another way to catch teamers and such, but if it were to be implemented I think it would have to be under the radar, because the second people figure out how the point-based systems work, they can adapt their methods in order to not be caught. But, if they don’t catch on then they won’t be able to adapt and therefore prove to be more effective

I love this idea, but there could be some.. well… controversy..

Many unknowing kids could be temp-banned (from MM ofc) for just trying their best and never play again because they don’t want punishments for that. And sweats could get annoyed because they might just confuse skins for others, and they wont be happy about not being able to play. And then if a friend wants to play MM with another friend, but they’re banned (possible as the 2 reasons listed above), it just wont work out.

There are MANY other situations where this comes to be a problem. But as I said, I’m not against this addition

Yeah ofcourse, that’s completely reasonable, I think if they were to implement the system, they would have to tweak it in order to find the right middle-ground, because accidents do happen, just how the game is sometimes, and if your getting temp-banned for an honest mistakes I definitely see your side. Basically, if they were to proceed with this idea, it would be advisable to establish a beta to test to minimize the chances of those frustrations overflowing within the community of users.
