another option is to make ur first berry cost 20, ur second cost 40, ur third cost 60, etc etc. This would retain the chief use of the berries while also mitigating berry spam.
Granted, this is a low-priority change bc while berries r op bows are still better even at close range for pvp.

Or add a counterpart of the speed berry like… slime balls. Imagine that someone is chasing you with Speed and you activate a kind of “viscous fat” as a defense mechanism. When you run, your footsteps leave the ground viscous and that would delay the enemy that is chasing you. It wouldn’t leave him stuck to the ground, it would only slow his speed.
Even the flag capturer would benefit from that, he could use it while fleeing with the enemy flag.
But I’m just a simple earthling, who lives hallucinating

I mean this would make the berries basically unobtainable later, it’s better to nerf them, I think.
how many berries are u using that they become unobtainable? That said, I am also fine just nerfing the pvp aspect of them with any of the methods listed above.

Funnily enough tho I am max lvl I only use 0-1 berries per game(though I buy more than that I just never use them). Anyways, I think speed berries nerf could just simple be shorter, slower, both, or increase the price.

Speed berries currently are a bit too OP, but this suggestion makes them almost completely useless. Hive should remove being able to drop the flag, eat a berry, and then pick the flag up again and actually get speed this time. Hive should also increase the cost but 65, 1 is too much and 2, is not rounded nicely. I think 50 or 60 is a fair trade off for already getting a nerf.
This is also very map dependable. If no one is ahead of the flag holder and you’re playing on Ashram or Oryx (which have no teleporters for catching up to flag holders) then speed berries are the only way to have a chance at catching up.
Speed berries need a slight nerf but not this heavy of one.

The hive has said they don’t intend to remove that feature.
Using berries to go fast with the flag is fine imo, its the pvp side that I think many players would rather be nerfed. Going fast is the main use of the berries, taking low kb isn’t.
Reducing the speed they give would be good, because plenty of players are ‘berry carries’ and just run around you hitting you after having the berries. A small berry QoL change would be nice.

bump! Ive been grinding CTF recently again, and i have repeatedly run across this problem. I defended for 10 minutes without someone grabbing my flag then lost a capture to someone abusing speed berries. its really annoying to not be able to catch up. Personally, i think they should just remove speed berries from being able to be used with a flag, like even if you eat it before it removes the effect. anyway, i hope this gets fixed

I think they’re good with the flag I just think they need to be less speedy. maybe slightly faster than usual berries.
I believe they actually have nerfed them now, but only for the flag . Still cost 40, still super fast in pvp and i believe same knockback however somehow when you get the flag you’re slower than someone even with the speed berries. Currently I checked and u get speed and slowness 2. They should only cancel out but i always get caught immediately then combo’d and i can tell there is a difference In speed.
idk if it was slow 1 or speed 3 before but this change has actually made CTF worse for me. As a casual solo player and probably the main demographic for CTF being slower actually makes it less fun for me as I always love to place a tnt at the wall, eat a speed berry and zoom back to base as it lets me win and have a chance even against a whole team with comms as I believe the average Hive player is unreliable as most the time, I’m the only one to push and haveto carry.
Im definitely not the greatest pvper (being a ps4 player) but in a 1v1 95% of the time i win and it can be so annoying to have a whole team single me out as the only one fighting. Now with the less speed its almost impossible to get away with the flag unless you have a teammate or two which is just unrealistic for me and now i never get the flag back to base ruining my fun and just giving a full team of comms even more of an advantage.
To guarantee my scenario of tnt+speed berries (Usually i use two for one in, and out) that costs 115 to get the flag (155 with extra berry) being 7 or 10 kills worth of money (ignoring constant income) so it actually is pretty expensive for an almost guaranteed flag.
I do agree that them being used in pvp is annoying and thats where them being nerfed should happen but they are designed to be used for chase and escape. It can be surprisingly easy by creating a wall of blocks then comboing them when they jump with speed not affecting when mid air.
Overall imo CTF is worse that flag+berry is slower/same speed as person without flag or berry as you can’t pvp out due to the fov reduction and slowness on the floor, you can’t run away fast enough and even if you do win pvp, they can just run away faster than you and just gives a whole sweat team a greater advantage.
