Idea: New gameplay mechanics, cosmetics, and balancing features to refresh and improve Hide and Seek.
More information:
Hello, I’m yasswood, a regular player and a small content creator dedicated almost exclusively to The Hive. I’ve been thinking about what could make the game more fun, and I think these ideas might appeal to regular players.
A bow for the seeker in hide and seek! Yes, a one-shot bow like the sheriff’s in Murder, with a specific cooldown time that automatically recharges if you eliminate a hider!
In the game, it’s common to run into experienced hiders who don’t usually hide and instead annoy the seekers, interrupting the search or pursuit of another block. They can spend the whole game running around without you ever catching them. With the bow, you could have a minimal advantage to catch them; since they aren’t hidden, the arrow eliminates them instantly and could grant more XP points
.
When shooting a hidden block, the arrow could either be lost or count as a standard hit, like a regular punch without a sword (meaning minimal impact).
It could even be used to unlock cosmetics!
Colored arrows, arrow trails like the feathers in Death Run, or different colored bows like enchanted ones.
A block tracker. Sometimes players are extremely good, or on the contrary, they are new players who don’t know what the blocks look like, even if they have the samples in their hotbar. It would be like the innocent locator or proximity tracker in Survival Games—just a little help against those cheating players who exploit bugs or hacks that make them impossible to find.
It could even allow the initial seeker to see the outline of the block through walls from a considerable distance! Just the outline, though; they don’t need to know the exact block, only the area to search.
Different sounds for taunts. Emotes could have a standard whistling sound to make them more noticeable.
Of course, there should be some advantage for the blocks too.
More hiding spots. They could close off well-known areas and open up different ones within the same map! For example, on the map of town square closing the currently available rooms and opening others. It would be the same map, just a different layout.
Being able to choose a different block if you are found once! If it’s before the halfway mark of the game and you were discovered but not eliminated, you could choose a different block than your initial one, preferably one that is less active in the match. It would be fun for the hider and confusing for the seeker, but given the tracker option mentioned before, it wouldn’t add too much difficulty for them.
Taunt traps. High-XP taunts take time to activate and are very obvious because you just look at the location and know which block to search for. Those taunts could be throwable, landing about 2 blocks away to the sides of the hider’s hiding spot.
More fun, less chance of being found.
Some unlockable cosmetics could have special functions upon reaching a certain level.
The hoverboard could make you jump about two blocks high with no trouble at all. The laser beam hat could be used to mess with seekers or communicate with other hiders if you are in an active party.
I could go on and on throwing out ideas like these because this is one of the games I hold dearest. So far, these are my most recurring ideas that I talk about when I’m live with my followers, who have encouraged me to send this.
Thank you for reading.
