Hi!
As you know, the volunteer Discord Moderator application was just opened to the public around an hour ago. I am writing to suggest the removal of " not be staff for any other Minecraft server" as a requirement for applying for the role.
- The only responsibilities of volunteer Discord Moderators is to moderate the Discord server. It is, in my opinion, very far from that of an actual staff position on a given decently-sized Minecraft server (for example, the previous volunteer Helper and Moderator roles the Hive has had in the past).
- Simply moderating a Discord server takes up MUCH less time compared to a staff position where one must also direct their focus to in-game and the forums. There is much less responsibilities. For lack of better words, there is much less dedication required.
- Volunteer Discord Moderators do not have a way of identification in the server aside from the yellow shield icon next to their name when they send a message. They are not displayed near the top of the members list or even given a visible role color. Volunteer Discord Moderators are essentially normal players who just have the responsibilities of moderating the Discord server.
Given the above, the volunteer Discord Moderators simply moderate the Discord server and are not given any kind of special ranks or perks in anyway. It’s quite an invisible position with little responsibilities that do not require as much dedication (comparatively, to a staff position on another Minecraft server, for example). Therefore, I feel as if they should have the freedom to be staff on another Minecraft server. In my opinion,
- being staff on another Minecraft will not affect the time they dedicate to moderating the Hive’s Discord server in any way.
- for the Hive their only role is Discord moderation, which is something that wouldn’t be affected even if personally the volunteer Discord Moderator “lean” towards or favor one of the servers they staff on over the other.
- as the Discord Moderator role is very minimally visible, any problems that may come with the same user being shown to be staff on two separate Minecraft servers are avoided.
- as the volunteer Discord Moderators are simply normal players with an added layer of responsibility, it feels unfair to “rob” them of their ability to become staff on another Minecraft server.
With the differences of the volunteer Discord Moderators role to that of a normal staff position on a Minecraft server, I think it’s reasonable to say that many precautions as to why the requirement of “not be staff for any other Minecraft server” is in place is in fact, no longer effective. Therefore, I think it should be removed so that players who may be experienced by being staff on another Minecraft server can also apply and contribute to the Hive, without being forced to leave their previous role.
Thank you for reading my suggestion. I am sorry if it was confusing in any way. I would love to hear your thoughts on the matter as well.
