This topic has officially reached 100 replies! I think this could be the next Toasty.

Back on topic, the “Turf” map isn’t the only thing coming from me. I’m planning on making a space map, and possibly a science lab.

I guess it could be, as a completely new game this topic is has alot of possibilities. Then again the reason Toasty got so popular is because 4 people happened to be on that topuc at the swme time and soent the next 2 hours coming up with varinats and concepts.

It doesn’t really matter too much, but in the original post you say the companion cube is from the most recent portal game, even though it’s been in every portal game (Portal, Portal 2 and Aperture Desk Job)

I had an idea for a powerup.


Fake Portal

Basically it’s the opposite of a portal. It will take form of an opposing teams portal, and when someone goes inside, they will be trapped, unable to move, and the portal becomes a dark grey. Each second they are in the trap, they take half a heart (1hp) of damage. The only way to free them is if someone on their team shoots a portal at the trap, which causes it to explode and deal 5 full hearts (10hp) of damage and a ton of knockback. Here’s some concepts i made:

I think thats just because you’re in america, and the realm is being hosted in the UK. I could be wrong though, i dont have ping issues.

Also to stay on topic, what if there was a type of placeable portal? to make it easier on mobile players.

It’s great that you are having fun building maps for this, but as a suggestion I think it could use some work.

Firstly, the concept of having portals is quite unrealistic.
If it were to just teleport players around, it might be clunky, but if done well it could be good.
But no matter what they do, it will always be difficult and confusing to know where you’ll end up when jumping in a portal.

Secondly, how the game works is confusing and seems like it would take a lot of time.
Getting moving, sentient players in a infinite loop would be very hard, especially in a skilled environment.
I think portals are awesome, and having a pvp mode but with portals would make more sense, at a smaller scale for the reasons above.

This is a good thing though- as you said in your second point, it woukd be very hard to get them in a loop. This means you could trap portals.

A fix towards being able to trap players WITHOUT using a trap could be to give the player slowness when you get them down to a certain amount of health. For example, If I get someone to ~2 hearts they would be given slowness 2, making it way easier to trap them.

Well… he has a point. IMO, everything else is fine, but idk about the trapping them in a loop thing. Seems like it would feel a bit clunky.

I think the locking in thing would be clunky, but if we didn’t have that then it would be pretty much impossible to trap someone.

We would need to find another solution to that.

Then what about this:

Everyone has a gauge. The goal is to shoot people with enough portals to the point where the gauge fills with energy, causing them to explode and be eliminated. If you wait a bit, the gauge goes back down.

Would the endless loop thingy still be a thing (just without the lock-on)? Otherwise portals porbably wouldn’t be used anyway.
