Penalty for leaving the match

Recently, while playing CTF, most of my teammates always leave, so I end up with a team of two or three people (including myself), which obviously leave us at great disadvantage against a team of 5-6 people; this has become a big problem because it became very frequent, so I suggest that players should receive some kind kind of penalty (maybe similar to that of The Bridge) for leaving the match.

yeah I agree it isn’t fair having a 4v6 because 2 of your teammates left

I want to agree with this but as a grinder I disagree
Usually if someone leaves it’s because they are losing and it’s almost impossible to get any xp unless your team is winning
my suggestion
So how about instead of a penalty the team gets a bonus such as
That half of the player’s gold will be given to every player (not split)
Meaning if the player had 100 gold every player on that team gets 50 gold each, and if that’s not good enough maybe team players get absorption hearts

imo i don’t think ppl should be punished or temp banned for leaving during the match, as they just doesn’t seem right and fair. but like mason said, the team that lost player(s) could get a bit of an advantage, like a speed boost or a strength powerup

The problem with just giving gold is that is a finite resource that will eventually run out (in fact, it can run out REALLY fast), so it wouldn’t work for the rest of the match. If you want to go with the “give some advantage” route, then I think it would be better to buff the team with less players, like giving them more strength, and making their bombs as op as they were when CTF was first introduced (less time to explode, more powerful and a larger range), and also making them cheaper.
Also, in my experience, most players leave because they rage quit, even when the winners are not as obvious yet

Gold is split between players if a player leaves already.

Thats a good idea but that won’t solve the issues with gold, it will help at least. Gold is given to players throughout the game so the team with less players will have less gold overall. Another issue is when you capture a flag 50 gold (I think) is given to every player on that team, which means with a player short you will not receive as much gold as a team with more players. I hope I worded that well enough.

When a team captures a flag it should split a certain amount of gold among the team instead of 50 for each and 150 for the one that captured it. It still should give the one to capture it more gold. So 400 gold is split up among the team, it would give a full team 400 so it would be even if you had less players.

Same thing with gold generation over time, 12 gold is split up and given to a team each time instead of it being 2 for each player. This should fix all issues with gold. So if there is a team of three they will receive 4 gold each time instead of 2. A team of 6 would receive 2 gold each.

I think that just adding a gold multiplier of 50% per player lost is the best route to go.

Most the time people use /hub. I’m pretty sure they are able to detect that from disconnecting from the server. I could be wrong but it seems simple. Plus that won’t even fix it, because then people will just leave the server then rejoin to avoid it.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but did you make a solution and then say why it wouldn’t work as a solution in the same paragraph

This mans a genius

I did do that. The Hive wants polished stuff so that would not work if they could just leave the server to avoid it. It would be great if they could figure something out for it to work though. Also they would have to have it work with “/q” as well.

I agree 100% on this. My game randomly crashed twice yesterday and just punishing for that would be unfair. As annoying as it is when people just instantly leave for no reason. I doubt anything could be done about it,

I guess this is a bump, but one issue I really don’t see anyone here mention is that, pretty often people leave immediately (on top of when you’re losing aswell), and so not a single one of these solutions will actually fix that, aside from traffic’s solution which may be to op, and one of dawhadurmonz solutions. Which is the only one that would actually work (by given each player more gold per second).

Now I don’t even know if this is possible, but I think that if there’s a gap of 3 or more players in the teams, the smaller team should be given the old tnt that was broken, but I think it would be fair if they were down so much.

Bump because we need this

The hive has said on many occasions that they cant punish players for disconnecting.

Well, seeing as this topic isnt closed yet then there might be ways they could. Definitely not whenever they leave the server, other ways of leaving matches such as /hub could be punishable? I dunno, haven’t heard anything about that. I’ll go snoop around and see if i can dig up more information on this.

Responses I’ve received while asking about it:
“We don’t punish for this as it isn’t against our rules.”
“If you would like to see this added to our rules suggest it on our forums.”

I agree with the idea but I’m not sure if it’s really doable. Some players leave the game without intention for example if the battery of their console runs out or they game crashed. Maybe they could add a warning when using /hub and that could say like “you may use this 7 times before a timeout”, idk. And if they have low battery they must say that their battery is low and then they HAVE to leave the server. Baning players because they left a match without intention seems a bit unfair to those.
