(O2) ban mini-modding (in disc server)

mini-modding should be banned in the Hive’s discord server.

mini-modding, for those that don’t know, is when a normal member acts as if they are a mod. I’m specifically concerned with banning aggressive mini-modding — as in, the member of interest is very clearly acting as though they were a member of the staff team when, in actuality, they are not. I’m aware that there is a massive gray area on what is/is not considered aggressive mini-modding, but as a basic rule of thumb, anyone that attempts to proactively/repetitively “control the chat” (ex, “stop talking about this now. you’ll get muted if you don’t.” x5 times in succession, etc) should be punished for doing so.

I have multiple reasons for why I believe this rule should be in place, but here are three.

  • firstly, it’s largely inappropriate for members to act as if they have more power over other members.
  • secondly, moderating should be left to the moderators.
  • thirdly, members that are not part of the moderation team are less likely to be informed about the rules. this means they may spread misinformation (and typically the recipient of said wrong information would get in trouble, not the one that gave it.)

strict and straightforward. consider it this way; you wouldn’t walk up to a police officer when they’re talking about road safety with someone that they pulled over, right?

you could bring up any counter argument and I could probably give you a reason as to why my statement still stands.

That’s the only reason I’m voting. I’m fine with them practicing being a helper and stuff, although it is annoying.

Personally, i think it can be good for community if there are mini-mods to help keep thinks organized (here on the Forums at least), especially when there aren’t any staff around. I don’t think people should be banned for simply trying to help, though i do understand not wanting misinformation to spread. But hey, thats just what i (a former mini-mod) think.
Edit: Im not sure whether ill keep this up or not (since ive been trying to leave the Hive community)

Mini-Modding is definetly good for the forums, even tho sometimes it can have slight misinformation, the main things are almost always gotten right, + new users never seem to read the rules.

As for the actual post on Discord, I have no say as I am not in the server.

Unfortunately I don’t know about the forums, so I can’t say much about it in that area; this suggestion just pertains to discord. I’ve seen a lot of conversations interrupted by people trying to control the chat room when they have no staff role, and earlier yesterday I believe I saw someone verbally reprimanded for something that someone else told them was allowed.

I’m not informed on the forums here, so I can’t really have a say on that; this suggestion mainly pertains to discord. I’ve seen a lot of people trying to control the chatrooms. earlier yesterday, in fact, I saw someone verbally reprimanded for doing something that someone else said was allowed.

There are some people that know the rules like the back of their hand despite being a member, definitely, but mods are typically more informed on community issues and rule updates. The amount of people that may be fed misinformation is smaller than the people that aren’t, but the percentage exists nonetheless.

Honesty on the Discord server, i do think that mini-mods should be punished in certain cases, like spreading misinformation or saying “i will mute you.” I think they shouldn’t receive a ban, though, but maybe a temporary mute.

I agree. they shouldn’t get a harsh punishment; just enough to let them know that mini-modding would be punishable. like maybe a 24 hr mute, or half that amount of time? maybe it’s just because I only check discord every other hour but I think that might work out.

I don’t have discord and likely never will so i wouldn’t really know a lot about this, but if it’s this bad i’ll vote
