I was playing CTF when I got knocked off the edge during a fight into the void. While I was falling, I had my bow in my hand when I dropped it. And when I respawned, I had no bow in my inventory at all. What I believed happened was that I managed to perfectly time me dying with me dropping my bow, which made the game unable to return me the bow as it normally does when you drop an item.
