Ok. So I’ve been muted on the hive discord. The reason doesn’t matter, sure I know why, that’s whatever. I’m making this post because I feel the way mutes are handed out around here seems haphazard and frankly poorly managed.
First of all, why isn’t there a warning system? This is like the first time I really have ever had any chat violation (besides the occasional f in lmao or whatever by accident) and I’m not even warned or told what rule exactly it was that I violated?
Second, if you run an organized discord server, I would assume you would catalog the mutes, what they’re for, and how long they last. If you know this information, why not DM the person affected? It’s a great way of communicating to them what they did wrong and how long their punishment is, or if they’ve received a warning or not. It appears that hive does not have a bot that does this for them, so if that’s the case, it should be on helpers/staff to give someone a valid reason for a mute, as well as how long it will last. To me, it seemed like whoever muted me just kinda gave me the role, didn’t bother to tell me why or even just delete my post and warn me, they just straight up did it. It’s like getting arrested but not being told why you’re being arrested (extreme, I know)
In conclusion, please re-evaluate how you do mutes (and possibly bans) on the hive discord server. It could be something as small as just training the helpers and mods to dm someone or give them a warning. Right now, it strikes me as being very disorganized and poorly managed. Thank you for your consideration
Hey there!
Firstly we do have a bot and we do warn people and we do give out information about a person’s punishments. You indeed receive a warning from the bot for usage of bad words or spam or any other rule broken like this,
Sometimes it so happens that you don’t receive a warning because you have “allow DMs from server members” off or the bot doesn’t just send it sometimes. Most of the time when the staff deletes your message it’s pretty obvious that you shouldn’t be sending it, we sometimes do warn you about it in the chat as well.
The bot should DM you about your punishment but if it doesn’t send you one you can always DM a helper or a staff for information about your punishment.
For now if you give me your Discord tag I would DM you regarding your punishment.
Thanks for understanding

Edit:- make sure to read #rules on the discord server so that you don’t break any rules again, it’s not that hard to control your own typing

Ok, so for 1, this had nothing to do with the bot and a language filter. For 2, I have server dms on, so the bot is able to message me (and I’ve received messages from it before), as well as any staff member. So I guess then what I was trying to figure out was who muted me, why, and for how long. I received none of that information, neither from a bot or a staff member. I figured this was normal because I had never been muted before and never had been extremely active on the server. I shouldn’t have to reach out to a staff to ask why, I feel that information should be provided up front. If my case was an anomaly, that’s a whole other thing to discuss. Also, the topic isn’t about why I was muted, but simply about the lack of communication I had received in regards to it. Again, if you guys had that information, which I’m sure you do, then I don’t know why it wasn’t dmed to me if I have server dms on.
As I mentioned before, sometimes the bot doesn’t DM people ( most of the times it does) so we staff don’t know about it whether it had DMed you or not. You can always shoot out a message to any staff and they will provide you with information about your punishment (which most people have been doing till now). Aslo, we don’t give out information about which staff muted you since it’s not necessary for you to know about that.
@xPi1ot im sorry that u got muted but u just have to wait until u get unmuted its as simple as that and it should also be in the #help-me not #suggestions because the suggestions catogory is mainly for ingame-suggestions @ItsWoozieE or @Hlzyzptlk u can maybe close this now
To summarise what Woozie said and add onto it a little:
We are aware that sometimes the bot doesn’t DM and for that reason, a member of staff will always verbally warn you when issuing a warning with Mee6. The bot also posts in the channel you broke the rules in if it auto-warns you. There are times where you may still miss this, or not realise you’ve been told off, but we usually always give several warnings before anything would result in a mute.
Furthermore, mutes are typically only given if you’ve broken our rules multiple times already - At that point, you would have been made aware at least once that you’ve broken the rules or should have enough common sense to realise you shouldn’t be doing what you’re doing.
And the reason we don’t DM people when they receive a punishment is because we would be spending 90% of our time sending out unnecessary DMs. Most users are well aware of why they were punished and don’t need to be told again, and the few users that aren’t aware are always free to ask a member of staff which takes about a minute of your time.
The Discord punishment system isn’t perfect but it’s already fairly well-organised but if you have any more specific complaints or suggestions, you’re welcome to direct those to [email protected].
