More Hive Cosmetics Purchasable with Quest Points (QP)šŸ†

:light_bulb: Suggestion: Make More Hive Cosmetics Purchasable with Quest Points (QP)

:shopping_bags: The Core Idea

Allow Mounts, Backblings, and all non-time-limited Hive cosmetics to be purchasable with QP (Quest Points) — not just costumes/boosters (which are worthless to players like me).

:white_check_mark: Why This Would Work

  • :repeat_button: Boosts replay value: Players will be more motivated to complete daily quests if there’s a real reward at the end — not just costumes/boosters (worthless to players like me).
  • :compass: Encourages variety : Since quests span multiple game modes , players would be naturally encouraged to try and play more modes they might usually ignore.
  • :gem_stone: Adds long-term goals: Saving for high-cost cosmetics encourages more consistent play and deeper engagement.
  • :money_bag: Increases subscription appeal: Since subscribers get more quests (and therefore more QP), this gives them a big reason to consider buying the sub.
  • :brain: Aligns with Minecraft’s creative culture: Many players prefer personal skins over paid costumes — but unique mounts or accessories? That’s worth grinding for.

:clipboard: More Information

This change would significantly increase the value of Quest Points, especially for players considering the Hive Ultimate Subscription. Right now, QP goes. only toward costumes, which many players (like myself) don’t find valuable — since we can make similar skins ourselves it doesn’t incentive me to do quests and play other game modes.

But if cosmetics like mounts or backblings were purchasable with QP — even at high prices (ex: 15,000 QP for a basic mount) — it would motivate players to save and grind, and give real value to the subscription’s extra quests as well as drive more players to more modes.

:speaking_head: Personally, if this change were made, I’d buy the Hive Ultimate subscription immediately. Without it — or something like it — I have zero interest in spending a dime.

:speech_balloon: Final Thoughts

Even if prices are steep — 15,000 QP for a basic mount, for example — that’s totally fair. It creates meaningful goals while still rewarding players who dedicate time and effort to the game.

:sparkles: Give Quest Points more purpose. Make desirable cosmetics truly obtainable.

First off, Hive wants/needs money, so not happening. They have stated they will never make this stuff possible to obtain for free.

Second, you give the number of 15k for a basic mount, so time for some basic math. Let’s say you are able to make exactly 150 qp/day, no more no less. It would take 100 days at minimum to earn that amount for what, a spaceship? The majority of the Hive playerbase doesn’t have the attention span for that.

Thirdly,

Boosters.

Fourth, love the formatting very cute. Please do this in the future.

  1. Yes I understand Hive needs money just like any other game developers but statistically speaking the game developers giving away free things are making the most money (If you’d like I can link several papers regarding this)

This comes down to psychology. Even personally speaking as I mentioned in the post… having those for free would get players more willing to spend in general because it’s taking so long to unlock it so why not just buy it with cash? (If you want I can also link several papers regarding the psychology of in-app purchases)

  1. I think 100 days of consistent grinding for a mount is fair. (Personally speaking, my friends and I have stopped playing the Hive because there’s no way to get mounts for free and we moved onto another server).

Also, if the majority of the Hive doesn’t have the attention span for 100 days then the problem you mentioned regarding them not making money by having tough to earn free cosmetics won’t even exist because players will just buy it before the 100 days.

  1. Thanks for the correction about boosters. I will change it now.

I must also include the fact that boosters are so useless to some players like myself that I even forget they existed.

  1. Thank you very much :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

My guy you just described EA and every mobile game ever.

I’m starting to think you assume everybody has money to spend on video game cosmetics.

That’s equally on Hive for not advertising them and players not utilizing them as much as they could.

Honestly, I was talking about the industry as a whole. EA has a lot of paid games that performed poorly compared to their own free-to-play games for example.

Why do you think games like Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars, Stumble/Fall Guys, Roblox, Fortnite (which I absolutely hate) are so big?

They are big because:

  1. Its free to play
  2. Its not pay to win
  3. Free players can obtain anything a paid player has. (Equal footing)

All 3 of these things are very important in game development and although The Hive is technically not a game it can still be seen as a portal to them.

Not everyone has money to buy cosmetics like the mounts which is exactly why I think they should be obtainable for free. (For example in Clash Royale it takes 6 months of daily grinding for a free evolution or around 10$ USD… they have recently reduced it down to 3 months of constant grinding which aligns nicely with the 100 days)

Personally, I would never buy a booster because I’m the type of player that wants to grind. You can check out the topic regarding On/Off Hive rank to see there are more players in the same boat as me linked below.

So Hive should become EA?

How kind of them, only 3 months.

So I can stop repeating myself and we can move onto other aspects. I agree that Hive should make cosmetics free, but not all of them. If everything is free, then people who paid will likely be angered since it greatly devalues whatever they paid for. Hive intends for mounts to be a /fly option, and that should stay a paid option. Ranks should stay that way as well because they’re usually the biggest income source for a server, and it’s just the industry standard. Having a way to obtain pets and hats freely feels fair. Unlike mounts and ranks, these two are purely cosmetic. Maybe 5k for a hat token and 10k for a pet token. So roughly 1 month for a basic hat, and 2 months for a basic pet.

No, I specifically said that I was talking about the industry as a whole and not EA.

EA alone hasn’t necessarily been successful. (They are not like a brand that people buy solely for the name). Their good games are what have made them successful and a huge majority of these successful games were free-to-play friendly.

If you ever decide to do your own research regarding how to release a successful game you’ll come to the same conclusion that all the biggest games you know about came to which is the fact that everything should be obtainable free-to-play because free-to-play are the ones grinding and essentially keeping the game or in this case a server active.

It’s really not surprising to me that no minecraft server has ever been big despite minecraft having so many players in it’s lifetime because of the fact that most of the server creators don’t actually work on making a good server and using statistics to improve it.

I don’t find it devalues it at all unless the cosmetics are too cheap. At 15,000 QP for the most basic mount it wouldn’t make me see the mount as less than it was before.

This change actually almost double their monthly revenue which is an important fact to consider when we are talking about my post — which is statistically the best way for them to increase player retention.

Lastly, I agree that ranks should stay as paid only but mounts should be obtainable by free to play in my opinion. Honestly I won’t stay around The Hive much longer if it doesn’t and many of my friends have quit The Hive because of this. They would rather invest their time in other games like I mentioned before because there’s no point to invest their time in The Hive if both games are equally fun but one is more rewarding.

I also forgot to mention that most of my friends and I’s time spent on The Hive is in the hub afk to just wait for gifts because there’s no other way to get those cosmetics which is not good game design.

Ok cool @jellybnzzz good idea.

Bro no hate this would make the Hive server run to losses uk
Like the Hive makes money through these micro transactions like if they replace it with quest points it’s going to be bad as maintaining and hosting servers is expensive
Just the electricity bills, The expensive GPUs and CPUs man u should consider and think you know if the Hive apply your idea it would make the Hive server go down in one month.

No hate but I’m just trying to speak the truth
If I’m wrong plz correct me

If implemented thoughtfully, this system would coexist with existing monetization strategies and increase revenue.

  • High QP Costs: Setting high QP prices for cosmetics ensures that only dedicated players can unlock them, maintaining the value of direct purchases.
  • Subscription Incentives: Offering more quests to Hive+ subscribers increases the value of the subscription, potentially boosting its sales.

Player Engagement

Allowing cosmetics to be earned through gameplay can enhance player engagement. Players may spend more time on the server to complete quests and earn QP, leading to a more active community. This increased engagement can, in turn, attract new players and potential customers.

Conclusion

While it’s crucial to protect revenue streams, integrating QP as a means to acquire certain cosmetics could be beneficial if balanced correctly. By limiting the scope, setting appropriate QP costs, and enhancing subscription value, The Hive can maintain its financial health while rewarding player dedication.

If we add a mount, I have some ideas to nerf it.

  1. Make it only work for a week before ā€œbreaking downā€ and requiring an additional 1k qp to repair it for another week. You can also just pay the price for a spaceship or something to make the mount work forever.
  2. Make it really expensive, like 5k or 10k qp.
  3. Make it only for one person so others can’t join.
  4. Make it non customizable so it doesn’t seem special.
  5. Make it the slowest vehicle.
  6. Have it have a limit to how long it can fly, like a jetpack, so it still takes long to go to higher places.

really, just super nerf it to make it a weird mount.

Or make it just the space ship that costs 10k qp.

The space ship often goes on sale and it would be the only mount that could be bought with QP.
