Just Build Map Themes

Just Build for the longest time has had no proper map voting, and why would it? Just Build, for a building game, doesn’t really need map voting, doesn’t it? Well, maybe we can rework a few things to make that happen.

First of all, we need to solve these problems:
• Seasonal Maps
• No Map Variety
• No Easy Way to predict Build Topics

Seasonal Maps
Seasonal maps are a thing in Just Build (primarily for Halloween and Christmas), however they pose a problem. These seasonal maps force us to build what’s related to those maps all the time until those seasonal maps go away. Every other gamemode has seasonal content completely optional outside of Just Build where, as I said before, is forced upon you.

No Map Variety
Just Build always had the same map. There’s no variety in them, which is causing the map itself to feel boring. Sure, seasonal maps do bring variety, but A. Its only during holiday seasons, B. You MUST build related to the map. So there’s currently no real win here.

No Easy Way to predict Build Topics
Now you might be asking: “Didn’t they add the ability to vote for topics?” and I say yes they did. So why am I mentioning this? Well the fact that 5 topics appear seemingly at random is something that we can’t easily predict. You may get a good selection or a bad one. You just don’t know it. It’s just not predictable.

How do we solve these problems?
The answer is a new theme selection menu and a rework on when topics appear.

Yes. These aren’t real maps that I made myself for this post, but you get the idea.

It’s a similar way of voting maps, but here I call them Themes. This allows us to play any seasonal map and their topics completely optional, have variety in the overall look of Just Build, and allows topics to be more easily predicted.

But what about the maps we currently have?
Those maps wont be removed from the game, as they will appear in the theme selection menu. What will be changed about them is the topics that appear within.

Isn’t there already something called “Themes” in the game?
Yes. And to that I say needs to be renamed for this to happen. I’ve been calling them “Topics” throughout this post, because we have the themes for those topics to go into, and each theme will have their own set of topics to build from. Just simply rename the current Themes to Topics.

How will these “Themes” affect gameplay outside of the actual map visuals?
Each theme will contain their own set of build topics. Think of the Halloween or Christmas seasonal maps as an example. Both those maps have their own set of topics that we build upon and is more predictable than the standard map we have. Here’s an example:

I guess this is the closest we will get to a Content Update for Just Build, and I feel like the gamemode would benefit from this idea.

This idea is intriguing for sure. However, I see queue times being an issues if just build gets divided into different themes. Then, when considering an idea, one must ask whether the work is worth the reward, and, unfortunately, this would be a “no.” This is pretty difficult to add, and when considering how few people would notice or appreciate this, this is a “no.”

Think of this as the usual map selection from any other gamemode. The only difference in the idea I proposed here is that it’s called themes. I don’t see how this would impact queue times. Sure the idea may not be worth it, but at least it exists.

Oh ok, that’s my fault; I misunderstood you. You’re suggesting that Hive has players vote for a theme, then the players vote for an individual topic?

Players vote for a theme, then they vote for a topic that goes along with that theme.

I don’t like that idea. It’s just I want to build whatever. The current map is fine.

Yeah I agree with @NotYoshi2 . This is too troublesome to deal with. Players and staff alike.

Great idea, but it would be better to make not maps, but “construction sites” that you can buy and change during the game, like on Hypixel. The problem with different maps is that the theme can be, for example, “monsters”, and you build all this on a map with the sun, ducklings, green grass and blocks that merge with your building.

I think that you misunderstand @GumDropolotl. The suggestion is that players in the lobby vote for a theme, then there are fifteen relevant topics chosen from that theme. This means you would have topics that match the theme.

It’s literally voting in Just Build, you’re not forced to do it, it’s exactly the same in every game mode. You just don’t like the voting system ?

I believe @NotYoshi2 is just saying that the current map, which is a giant, modern looking robotic lab, in which you build is fine for every build theme, with which I agree.

No, I’m not saying that. I’m saying that having a map which kinda locks your theme of the build to it would make Just Build worse.

Yes I agree @NotYoshi2 . Say there was a theme map called summer and the topic was a beach. It would give the builders an advantage because of the surrounding area.

so everybody will get the advantage, no ? Did I misunderstood something ?

Yes, good builders will get an advantage for a matching theme and topic.

You vote for a theme, and after a list of topics that are in the theme of the selectionned one is choosable, like usual. So everyone have a matching theme and the same topic matching the theme. Good builders are not really getting better, at the opposite “bad” builders could get inspiration from the surroundings. Good builders are good builders, no matter the place they are, even if it’s improving their talent, it’s the same for everyone.

But that’s to much voting a theme is not needed

Alright, for this one it depends of the thoughts of the persons, there’s no need for arguments
