Item Idea: Spell of Armor

Spell of Armor :shield:

Function

Once used, it gives you Resistance I for 5 seconds. It wears off after that time and the spell disappears, like any other spell.

Loot/Rarity

You can find it in lapis like any other spell, and it’ll be a bit rarer than a spell of life.

Concepts

Why?

There’s really not a lot of spells in skywars. No one mines lapis cause it’s just not worth it. Adding more spells will make lapis less useless. A resistance spell would also be good in combat. It would give you a buff but nothing too big.

JJ's Note

Why do deaths keep trying to kill runners? what sins did they commit?

if ur gunna do a spell of armor why not just put spells for alot of potion effects (with largely reduced probabilities of getting pulled, obv) like jump boost and slow falling and poison (the next person u hit gets poison for 3 seconds or smth) or strength idk

this is a good idea tho, voted

A resistance spell book would definitely make combat more interesting and dynamic, increasing the skill ceiling of skywars in general and hopefully making for a more enjoyable experience. I’m personally all for increasing the abundance of spell books as I agree with the fact that lapis is rarely mined amongst games compared to other ores like redstone or emerald.

This is just my personal opinion, and is not a reflection of the directives of the hive team!

How should the Spell of Armor work when someone with full diamond uses it? If you didn’t already know, all weapons from stone axe/iron pickaxe to sharp 1 diamond sword deal half a heart of damage to someone with full diamond.

The health can’t be inbetween halves so the spell must either make the player invincible or do nothing for each weapon used to attack them.

It could just give the same amount of protection as either a prot 1 helmet or boots so the ember sword doesn’t do any damage, but all stronger weapons do half a heart.

I wish there was decimal health so stuff like this wouldn’t be an issue.

That actually exists! Health is more than halves and fulls, it’s counted in hundredths internally (like in Java). Therefore this wouldn’t be an issue.

The idea is interesting. However, with how powerful full diamond armor is alongsite 7 full absoprtion hearts, this would be very overpowered. Essentially, the person who gets this spell would be able to tank hits, leaving you with a very low chance of winning the fight unless the person you’re fighting is really bad at the game. If it ends up being a tradeoff between two players, the person who can tank the most hits is gonna end up winning the fight.

I think for this to be added, Hive would have to reduce the maximum armor you get in the game (Likely by removing the diamond chestplate as its the strongest armor piece in the game) and reduce the the maximum amount of absorption hearts you can get by 2. Since having this topped with the current max armor and max health would result in fights that drag on and overstay their welcome.

I think if the spell gave you 2 seconds of absorption/immunity thatd be fine, thats basically as if you’d eaten a golden apple before the fight

I agree with @AnAbsurdName, the duration of the spell should be about 2-3 seconds rather than the usual 5 seconds. If the spell lasted 5 seconds, it would make players difficult to sweep due to minimal damage output. Overall, this is a solid idea, upvoted!

Theory to JJ's note

Theory: The Hive gods probably sent the deaths to kill the runners due to the runners’ greed for xp and levels. (And yes, greed is considered a sin)

Really? From the research I’ve done, my understanding is that damage is always rounded to the nearest full health (half a heart).

For example, if 1.5 damage (0.75 hearts) was done to a player twice, the player would take either 2 or 4 damage (1 or 2 hearts) depending on how the number is rounded, instead of 3 damage (1.5 hearts) which you would get from 1.5×2.

If you have any sources to prove otherwise, I’d like to know about them. I’m a technical player so I need to know this kind of stuff.

Completely unrelated, but a good question.
My theory that I put together in two minutes is that the runners opened a crypt that contained the deaths, and hence the game of Deathrun begins.
Go ask the discord people, I’m sure they have a better theory.
