Imagine buying individual pieces of armour…
Imagine the situation: there’s someone chasing you but you’re rly bad at the game so you can’t win without armour… (not the case just sayin)
Your inventory: 17 gold 9 diamonds and 11 ems.
You can’t buy armour normally… But just imagine buying a diamond chestplate for 7-8 ems some iron legs and boots for 3-4 diamonds each and a chainmail for 8-10 gold.
You would definitely win the battle! 
(well maybe he has full diamond or something in that case just surrender)
