Hats in Games

Hats are a new Cosmetic for 2 dollars and I think there great but the one thing I don’t like about them is that you can’t wear them in games or even game hubs! I think Hats would be more worth it if you could wear them in games or atleast game hubs.

I believe this would work well, costumes that have extra geometry work fine in games, when you put on armour they just disappear. If that can work I don’t see why hats can’t.

GOD they should’ve just done it from the smart! It doesn’t ruin the game, make anything unfair, or make the gameplay annoying (for example if pets were in game) this is just such a blatant and OBVIOUS thing they should’ve done! There is no difference of the hat and the costume, an accesory to make the game fun. If the animated part messes up with the game, dont make them animated in game, just add the dang hats to the game! Most of hive gameplay is IN THE GAME. Pets not being in the game is reasonable, same with mounts, since those 2 are mainly for events. But hat’s are stupid if not able to be used in game. It’s just a little thing on your head, not a pet or something you fly on. Costumes are the same, and they are fine in a pvp match of bridge or sky, so why can’t hats be? For extra proof, I’m gonna do a compare and contrast of a hat with a costume and pet in a game.
Hat With Costume
They both are fun little accesory addons to change your character for fun. They don’t make the game unfair by making the character shorter, infact they have similar hitboxes and they are basically just skins. This would be the same for hats. Hats would not have a hitbox, and it would not mess with anything. The only difference one is a hat one is a costume.
Hat With Pet
Pets would not be fun in pvp. they would fly around, annoy the players, ruin vision, this would be a bad idea. But as said, the hat would be the absolute same! That is all to be said.

We plan to eventually implement them into some of our games, but right now we have no information about which and when -Splodger

He said that in the discord and I’m too lazy to take a picture, so I just copied it.

In my opinion, the new hat cosmetics should work in all game lobbies and the following games:

  • DeathRun
  • Murder Mystery
  • Hide and Seek
  • Just Build
  • Block Drop
  • Ground Wars

They clearly aren’t made for games where you equip armor, speak all PvP-games, but similar to pets they should give the new cosmetics some more value outside of the hub (pets for in-game lobbies). :slightly_smiling_face:

This is true. Costumes have the same effect: when you put on a piece of armor, the outer layers disappear, which is totally fine! I wouldn’t mind it at all. But they are most especially useful in the lobbies, like the skywars lobby. It’s a little bit of a flex, and that’s cool :sunglasses:

Doesn’t look like even that many will get them since Just Build has helmets, and what boxxer said

here

seems like Hide and Seek also won’t get them.

I still think they should be in every game, even if its a pvp game.

Hats use the helmet slot in your inventory, which doesn’t really work with pvp games as you have to equip other armor.

They could add the hub hats you purchased to the Just Build locker so that you are still able to use them in the game.

And? Just unlock the slot, so you can take the hat off. In all the pvp games(I believe) using the armor swap feature in your hotbar will automatically keep the better piece of armor on, in this case the hat would be worse than any other helmet. Games such as TW and CTF also has a feature like that when buying armor. Once the hat is out of the helmet slot it can be cleared from the inventory so other people can’t put it on.

I don’t think the Hive has to keep the hat in the inventory slot. Sure, it looks nice in the hubs, but if someone goes into a game remove the slot and treat the cosmetic like a costume. This would be the smartest way to do it. If you could just take it off, that adds a lot of other problems

I don’t think this is possible on Bedrock Edition unfortunately. A costume replaces your regular Minecraft skin, while the hat cosmetics are animated and get added on top of your Minecraft skin / costume. They probably can’t just add the cosmetic itself to your skin file and are required to use the armor slot in order for it to work.

Oh I see. Hmm I didn’t consider that. Can’t they use the same tricks they use for Ghost Invasion and Hide & Seek? It surprises me that they couldn’t animate a costume like that. Either way, I believe they posted on Discord they’d be working on it, so :man_shrugging:t3: we’ll just have to see

I mean, yeah, but the blocks they use are all the same height. Not all costumes/skins are the same height/size. So they could do it like that, just wouldn’t be ideal.

Like Luca said, it’s part of the player file. What if they just cycled through the animations, feeding your player file with the next “slide” of the animation? Also many character creator elements are animated, so obviously animated skins on Hive ARE possible

What? Are you even talking about hats anymore? I could just be confused since I don’t know anything about this stuff.

Anyways still isn’t ideal, most likely. As they would have done it that way if it was a better option.

Yes I’m talking about hats! I’m talking about the technical implementations of adding animations to costumes and hats. But I’m say it just has to be possible to implement. Anyways that’s all I have to contribute :joy:

Bump, as I really want to see this implemented

They actually have added this feature to their Upcoming Announcements tab in the Change-log  so it will work soon!

Depending on the implementation, it actually isn’t necessary. The item most likely controls an animation that adds the hat as an attachable. When you enter a game, it could remove the hat item, but then trigger the animation controller again to add the hat back without the item
