Idea:
I was wondering if players who are caught hacking (there would have to be certain criteria for the type of hacker receiving this punishment) could have their stats wiped.
More information:
Before I start I want to state that the first and last time I posted on hive forums was jan in 2019, back then I was fairly immature and wasn’t careful with my choice of words and the topic was “reviewed”. So, if I do anything wrong please correct me as a don’t think I’m gonna say this the right way. Please keep in mind this isn’t really of concern to those who don’t care about stats etc.
Basically, some irl friends of mine missed out on a leaderboard position. After news of particular people caught hacking and, to my knowledge were banned, my friends (who take mc a little bit to seriously) were angry that they were essentially not on a leaderboard that they spent hours working for, because of a hacker who was banned, but sustained their position on the leaderboard. Now, the reoccurring rebuttal of “people being falsely banned having their stats wiped would be unfair”. This is probably the main reason for stat wiping not existing on the hive. I’m positive, though without evidence, that the hive rarely false ban. But, for those who need piece of mind, I want to suggest making a strict criteria for a player having their stats wiped.
- Are they a repeated offender
- If the hacker has (with proof) admitted they were hacking
- The type of hack/exploit may be a consideration? x-ray to see hiding players may not be considered as malicious as others, but this rule depends on the hive’s current view on what hack/exploit is more malicious, perhaps they see all cheating as the same I really wouldn’t know.
- Above all else, is their solid evidence of them hacking via image or video.
Now this criteria is strictly a suggestion and is in no way needed or limited to the suggestion (only here because when I brought it up on discord people were concerned about false banning)
I would also propose my reasoning for this, firstly it’s a pretty significant punishment (that’s why repeated offenders/ban evading should be more likely to receive this punishment), so it would definitely make players who attempt leaderboards and/or hacking in general think twice before doing so. In my opinion, (here’s where I have to be careful with my wording) hackers in the leaderboards, to my knowledge, have been occurring far too often. Without sharing the igns and instances of this occurring I know there are players who have even surpassed top 20 who had been banned for cheats such as flying in the past and who then got their account back with their stats intact, when without the hacks, lets be honest, would never have made such a feat. Now I know that probably sounds irrelevant and not really of concern for most (A player on discord was raging about how “only like 3k people who grind tw” would actually care). But it doesn’t take much to realise that if a player is hacking either one game, or two, or three hundred they should not keep their stats.
Some very opinionated players say that is it’s not right to wipe the stats of players who hack once and learn their lesson. I, personally, see this as false, and that anyone who goes to the effort of youtubing googling or spending any amount of time to find, download and install a hacked client, SHOULD have their stats completely wiped. that amount of effort is beyond consent to accepting any consequences that should be given to them.
The use of “discrete” hacking is becoming more apparent, as per small hive youtubers, and common players who play for fun. I see this topic as being debatable in terms of stat wiping, due to the increased likelihood of false bans. But, as I’ve stated, many repeated offenders or players who have admitted to hacking are being allowed to keep their unfair wins after several months of being banned. sure some believe that is a very fair punishment as I believe it to be, but then why do those players keep the kills and win stats for a game they used hacks to, lets say, hit two people at once and instantly breaking treasures etc.
The response is usually “just report them” which is great, keep it up! But, even a ban isn’t going to repair the lost stats of victims to hackers (and trust me they add up).
Although like my topic a year ago, I preferred an authoritative response from someone with actual evidence-based answers from people such as admins who work tirelessly everyday to improve the quality gameplay for us players and would have a more informed opinion on this suggestion. I understand this is a forum, and everyone’s opinion must be included to keep this topic unbias and show both sides to the suggestion, so please, kindly, share your thoughts on this idea, but also include whether you actually are concerned with this issue. So, I can understand what players giving an opinion, are responding to have an informative opinion and those who just like responding to posts on forums.
Finally apologise for the length, if I have stated anything incorrectly or rudely perhaps, please inform me in a kind manner and I will be able to improve my approach in future forum posts. Thanks all, please stay safe during this epidemic. - Ninjaa
