Before I get my idea archived or something, I just wanna say that this idea is only meant for people who are willing to pay for hive or winning contests. I also tried helping Hive minimize their amount of moderation, and this suggestion will be very long. I took 30 minutes to write this.
If you want to know more about my idea, here it is:
I understand that many things (or everything) takes up space, which also includes saving custom avatars (if they’re ever added). So, to fix the balance between the amount of server data used and the amount of server data left, people should buy it instead. Instead of adding it as another benifit of Hive Plus, make it a seperate marketplace item. Because there may be contests and stuff, the price of it should be multiplied by 1.2 (or something) of what the minimum price costs. The 1.2 price multiplier can probably include paying the Hive workers who get paid and also some for the contest winners. Because I’m not part of Hive and will probably never be, I have no idea on what the price should be. No numbers are fixed (as stated at the very bottom of this suggestion) and none should be. Now you may be asking: “How should you submit your avatar image?” Easy, on the website. For verifying that you are actually you, just use the Microsoft login system. Infact, they’ve already used it for their account login for this suggestion forum! Although, the next one may be tricky…
As Splodg3r had mentioned before, the moderation may be too much. To solve this problem, we could come up with some ideas. Maybe a new voulenteer role? Maybe add another reporting option? Maybe let the community decide if it’s allowed? Actually, maybe the 2nd and 3rd one. The Hive has many parts of its own website such as its newsletters or suggestion forum, so unless it costs money to make another part of the website, maybe trust the community a bit. Personal thoughts on voting for an allowed custom avatar? Well, maybe always show the least voted avatars upon finding the page for it, and having an option to find the most voted avatars. I’d say 20 upvotes maximum for possible moderation. If it gets 5 downvotes or so, deny the custom avatar. If the person was targetted for being hated or something when they did nothing wrong and wants to appeal their submission, they could probably submit it from the server or from the website. Maybe prioritize appeals rather than upvoted avatars, as I think many underage kids will just downvote professional players because they lost when they were just playing the game. If the appeal gets approved, then so does their avatar. If an upvoted avatar gets rejected, make them unable to resubmit the same image and result in a punishment if so. Same for rejected appeals. Also, if 2 people wanted to submit the same image but it wouldn’t be allowed and only 1 of them was made aware of so, then punish the one that was aware and only warn the person that wasn’t made aware. For the reporting option, you could point out what part of the avatar has a bad meaning, and then decide if it’s allowed.
That’s my entire suggestion. I may have problems in my suggestion whether if the moderation maybe still be too much or a number wasn’t high or low enough, but remember that this is a suggestion and only a suggestion. I don’t think any of these numbers should be fixed, as they may be unbalanced and some people may complain that a number is too big or small. If this suggestion ever gets approved or something, I’d be glad that I did something for the community because I think this was something everyone in the Hive has always wanted. Also, 30 minutes to write this much hopefully shows how much effort I took to write this, and how many errors I may have stated. Bye.
