Bow mechanics

Revert the bow mechanics

First of all, thank you for listening to the community. Armor trims? Amazing. TNT radius marker? Great. PRE-GAME INVENTORY ORGANIZATION? THANK YOU!

However, the recent update also brought along new bow mechanics, these cancel out any knockback (sometimes) and reduce damage dealt when you shoot someone within a 6 block radius (sometimes, it’s incredibly inconsistent as well)

The new bow mechanics affect the majority of the community:

  • Bowspamming is a bit harder (but not impossible to do, just inconsistent and only applies to short distance fights) + there is a bypass that allows players that know it to have an unfair advantage over other players anyway.

Short-Range bowing is essential for:

  • Players holding a cursed flag preventing players with speed from getting close to the as easily (requires skill, good aim)

  • Fighting cheaters with reach; THIS IS IMPORTANT. Sometimes, the anti-cheat system is not enough. So we rely on short/range bowing to even have a chance at beating them.

  • People with a lower skill-ceiling; Such touch and controller players

The old mechanics were overall smoother/more consistent and better for the CTF gamemode specifically. That’s the reason why a lot of people have simply given up and stopped playing.

I had published a similar thread so I’m gonna address some of the questions I got there

  • “But-But, what about bowspamming!!”
It is still possible to do, this update did nothing but make the gamemode less playable for most people.

  • “The player count is low because of school”
No, if you look at previous months, the player count was constantly at 450-700 EVEN during school terms. :exclamation:

  • “Bow fights take no skill”
Everyone is given a bow, if it really was skill-less everyone would be able to use it the same. Why don’t you? Right.

I am a competitive CTF player, most of my friends agree to everything I’ve said. The people disagreeing are people that BARELY play the mode. So please, let the actual community speak. Thanks!

Because I like fights that take skill and not who shot first. It’s never been fun, and nearly all other gamemodes in the hive have this short range bow mechanic. Why should ctf be different? And what made them add this mechanic to the other gamemodes in the first place?

The playerbase didn’t die because of the bow changes, it died down like EVERY other gamemode, because people are going back to school. If it was the bow changes it’d only be ctf dying

I’ve not seen any of those inconsistencies with it, but I’d report those if you have clips of it

“Fights that take skill”, yeah, aiming and shooting first would be the skills youre lacking here, sorry.

Use your common sense please, I compared the player count to other school term months.

The fact you havent seen this shows all of us, the people that actually play this, that you aren’teven close to playing the game as much as we do.

Answer this and we can talk.

Aren’t bows just used for combos? It’s not like it takes away the knockback, just damage.

not in all cases cuz bows are just a ranged weapon

The mechanic the added to CTF is NOT the same as the other gamemodes. Notice how you keep saying stuff that has nothing to do eith the new update

Nope, they cancel KB out too.

bro the whole server drop from 23000+ people to 19000+ people or whatever (I didn’t see clearly)
Also before bw update I’ve also seen ctf had so much players, just 200-300, it didn’t get this updates. Explain?

Now what I was saying was, they added it to other gamemodes for the same reason they did for ctf. Sure, it works slightly different, but overall it’s serves the same purpose, therefore why I’m calling it the same. Once you realize why it was added to other games and continues to be added to other games, you’ll understand why most players, and hive themselves think it’s better this way. Change is always good, especially for players who want to climb to god tier status like yourself. It challenges you to play different and explore more ways to play instead of cheesing your way through fights.

Better watch out, he might think that bw update killed it as well. Went from 10,000 players at peak to 6,000 :astonished:

Not slightly different, its actually broken. Please play the game before commenting.

As a semi competitive player who plays CTF daily, honestly aside from the damage nerf it didnt feel that different. Removing the KB cancellation and reducing the low damage radius from 6 → 3 would be my ideal way to change this.

I want the old mechanics back, but if they did what you are saying I could live with it. Thanks for the feedback.

maybe you haven’t seen the time with less players.
One time I want to play ctf I found it only had 300+ players, maybe last year.
Also how do you say after the update, could it be a bit less when school’s out.
If you want we can see during Halloween if the player will go up
(or you may misunderstand something, what I say bw update is tw become bw)

It’s time for stellars opinions! Yeah I don’t know how else to present that.
Anyway this is a breakdown of this post and why I disagree with this.
So let’s start off with a little context.
I have been a long time CTF player, I have played it around when it released (I think) and have grinded levels for 6+ months. In this time I have gotten to know what I love and hate about CTF, and some of these things I will go over.
So, let’s begin!

Yeah, that is nice. Don’t know if armor trims were suggested here, so don’t know if that counts. Armor trims might be a bit distracting but I haven’t played enough with them to form a full opinion. Also the TNT marker might very slightly nerf instant tnt, which is a good and a bad thing.

Now we get into the part I majorly disagree with. Close range bow-spamming is absolutely horrendous to play against. This is probably one of the most annoying combat strategies you can do, as people have said it requires no skill.

The majority of the community is absolutely not affected by this, only the highest leveled players. These players already have an advantage against newer players anyway, bow-spamming is one one of these advantages.

Ok, so let’s go through each of these one by one. If you are holding a cursed flag, most of the time you aren’t going to sit there bow-spamming someone, you are going to be running for your life. Can’t really comment on the cheaters part, but yeah. So then your final point, players with a low skill ceiling. I play on one of those “low skill ceiling devices” and I can beat the majority of players I face in a fair fight. I only once bowspammed someone, and never again. I believe that fights should be fair.

No, it made bow-spamming slightly more inaccessible. Most people, like I said, don’t care at all about bow-spamming. They just want to play the game.

Yeah, they absolutely don’t. You didn’t even provide a reason to why they would take skill.

Like someone else said, I believe fights should be fair.

I definitely play this game, so I am an actual member of the CTF community with a disagreeing opinion.

Now, time for the final section. The replies. yay.

They are saying they chose not to, not that they dont have the skill.

You don’t have to play CTF 24/7 to be considered a part of the community. You can play the game and not find these inconsistencies, especially if you aren’t bow-spamming in the first place

Ok they quite obviously have played the game, please stop accusing people of not playing the game.

TLDR

No. Just no

Anyway, sorry for the super long essay. That’s all for now. If you made it this far, thanks for reading!

I’ve been playing CTF every day for the past 2 years. Ive seen 300 players, yes, but not multiple days in a row. And of course it’s right after the update

I am not hive plus, can only play for an hour-2 hours a day, I have been playing that long. Also again, it doesn’t matter how long you have been playing, you are still a part of the community
