BlockParty: Powerup vote

Although blockparty isn’t released yet, and things are subject to change, I think at the start of every match, players should be able to vote on if the match will contain powerups or not. I just see this as a simple “quality of life” feature I guess. Sometimes, players may just want to feel that original hive blockparty vibe without all the powerups and abilities that can provide players advantages over others.

but on Java block party also had powerups(at least after I first knew this game), and I think some powerups won’t provide advantages.

Of course, the game hasn’t been released so it may be a little early to make decisions now.

How exactly would a power up not provide an advantage?

yeah what…? how would some powerups not provide advantages? the entire point of powerups IS to provide advantages

Well maybe I got it wrong…
if you mean it is to help the player who got the powerup to win, then you can watch this

this is the block party from another server, and that powerup is tnt and maybe you can get its function through this. But other players can also come here if they see, so to some extent it didn’t provide advantage for the player who got the powerup

Ehhh this is a no for me, its better if there were powerups to make the game more fair in terms of gameplay since it gets difficult as time goes on.

I agree, but mainly cuz ‘Hive’s twist’ recently is just kits or power ups. Not every game needs kits or powerups, I still want bridge without kits.
Powerups just make games more based on luck instead of skill, I understand it makes it more fun. But sometimes you just wanna sweat/try and it being luck based just ruins that.

but do block party actually need skills?
well I can’t tell either but from my experience on another server, I thought it was based on luck sometime, for example when the block might be very far away from you but was very close to another player.

block party requires quick reaction timing and the ability to move. so technically speaking, yes, it does require some skill. the player base is likely to be split, with one half of players sweating the game trying to max it as fast as possible, and the other half playing more casually and for fun, further making a powerup vote a convience for all players abroad

Partners had early access to Block Party earlier today / yesterday, which is why we already have some information about what powerups the game mode will have:

Player Powerups:

  • Speed Upgrade (5 seconds)
  • Jump Boost (5 seconds)
  • Leap (feather, similar to DeathRun)
  • Color Teleporter (teleports you to the chosen color)

Map Powerups (cannot be collected as an hotbar item)

  • Color Bomb (An explosion occurs painting the blocks surrounding the Powerup in the round color. If the round color has not been revealed yet, a random color is chosen instead.)

:warning: Pre-release information. Subject to change! :warning:

I believe these items are faily balanced and I do not see a reason for a vote system based on power ups. To get powerups you have to play risky, as you may not be able to get to the round color in time.

Also there are no ‘unfair’ powerups such as a Knockback Nemo, so collecting powerups gives you an advantage for playing at a high risk, without giving others a real disadvantage.

On Java’s version, There were powerups that could also give the player a curse.
Some of these included:

  • Blindness
  • Inability to jump
  • Random teleport

They are technically not " power-ups ", but they made getting powerups a lot more dangerous, especially in later rounds where the game would speed up. I doubt Bedrock edition will ever get any curses though.

In response to both recent comments, I do believe that if having a voting system for the powerups is unnecessary, there could at the very least be some negative powerups that give players disadvantages, similar to BlockParty on java, making things more balanced and players more skeptical on if they choose to collect a powerup or not. and i may make a seperate suggestion on here for that.

Not everything from the Java version has to be transferred to bedrock just for that “old block party feel”.

java had powerups… :sob::sob: also only made 1 suggestion for a feature from java

On seeing the partner’s videos of BlockParty thus far, Powerups spawn so often? And the colour teleporter seems way too OP. Of course this is subject to change, just something I wanted to say lol

I do think this should be an option for custom servers, but I’m not sure about regular games, maybe make color teleporters more rare? Those seemed to be really Overpowered

This is probably one of the only times where the “make X power up rarer to help balance things” argument has actually made sense just because of the sheer number of power ups given.

Also unrelated, but I feel like a tiny bit more contrast in the colourblind mode textures could be beneficial. Idrk if it’s that necessary since I’m not colourblind but looking at the videos the shapes on them didn’t seem very clear, especially when they’re running around.

As I know you know, please keep replies on-topic to the original post.

However, if you think that the textures should be changed, you should make a topic about it for more community discussion! (Although I recommend waiting until its release, because they still could have changed it.)

I’m pretty sure one partner (I can’t remember which one) said that the colour teleporter was only made common in the preview so that they could try it out better, don’t quote me on this though.

kits in bridge change things a lot more then powerups in block party would, and also I feel like these powerups are less game changing then block drop powerups too.
