Idea:
On all games except Bridge Solo use platform-based matchmaking. I think this is great. It allows PC players to fight PC players, and mobile players to play with other mobile players. One issue: you can’t turn it off.
I play on a Linux Device (Steam Deck). In order to play Minecraft Bedrock, I need to install a 3rd-party launcher. This launcher emulates android to play Minecraft, not windows. So every server I join thinks I’m on an Android device, other than a few servers like Zeqa that categorized Linux.
I use a keyboard & mouse to play the Hive, and would like to fight other keyboard players. But it seems to mostly always queue me with a bunch of mobile players, instead of keyboard players. No hate to mobile players, but them fighting a PC player seems a bit unfair to them, and boring to me
My suggestion is that there is a way to easily toggle on or off platform-based matchmaking, therefore mobile players can have it on, and Linux players like us can disable it if we need to.
More information:
Yes I know you’re saying “why u play linux get windows nerd”. I can’t get windows, i’m on a steam deck, designed to use linux.
U can try playing in a party whereby theres only pc players in it
ok I like linux personally but the fact that you cant get minecraft on linux easily is bc theres no direct support for it, and therefore theres no real reason to pay much attention to mc on linux. this I think is the only example of odd platform classification so imo theres no reason to worry about it
besides you can just go in a party with a windows player if it matters that much to you

ok NOPE.
This has been proven to be a dumpster fire in the world of featured servers. PLEASE no.

I’m confused as to how this would work.
It would make you ‘‘invade’’ the queue of other platforms or would you be moved to a queue with only people who chose to turn off PBMM? The first case would be a chaos and completely destroy the concept of Platform-Based Matchmaking, and I don’t think the second would have enough players.

Exactly. PBMM is just not effective. Hive and other servers have demonstrated this over and over.

If I’m understanding this correctly, all you’re asking for is an “opt out” button for pbmm, which makes sense to me - the more choices people have the better, usually. Ur not asking for a button that stops u from queueing vs people not on ur platform, just a slight addition to the current system. Voted.
No the problem is this would allow for PC players to get into Mobile or Controller ques.
turning off pbmm would only ever put u in pc queue lol

Oh well that seems more fair. Still tho idk
Hi there! I respect the thought put into this Idea, however I think it would be horrible in practice. I know some people who will connect a keyboard and mouse to another device to get into controller or mobile lobbies to boost their stats. I feel like this will only make this easier.
I understand why you would want this, but the best way would probably be to have something like zeqa has to detect linix players to play them against PC players. Not to allow players to toggle off player based matchmaking

But giving people an option is kinda finicky as far as queueing goes because toggling it on will just direct people out of the SBMM queues. It seems like this could be working for BedWars, minimally functional in Skywars, Murder Mystery, and maybe Hide n Seek, but other games have counts that are just too low for this.
@oLuunarr this is not stat boosting. Stat boosting is using second accounts, cheaters, etc. this is just strategically getting easier wins.

Finicky wasnt what I was getting at, but with the idea, if implemeted it would either heavily slow down queues or bring an unfair advantage to the pc players.
With the stat boosting that I was saying, I wasnt meaning it as a bannable offense, but that is the exact word they used to describe it.

I see, but this wont give an advantage to PC players anymore than they already have. Can you explain what exactly you think this will give them an unfair advantage in?

Pc Players have easier access to KBM’s And on devices like mobile its incredibly difficult to connect them.
Pc players usually have better/more consistant Fps
Just on Average they are better than Console and mobile players. Unfair advantage may have been the wrong wording, but it is definetly an advantage.
Along with this, if you ask any grinder for most pvp games, they will say to play at hours where there are less players so device based matchmaking gets turned off temporarily.
In addition, I dont see any advantages to removing it that cant be implemented in a fairer way.

i can see how pc players invading the controller/mobile lobbies can be annoying. a solution could be to always queue with pc players, if you choose to, and pc players on their own cannot queue with controller/mobile
I dont see how pc players are “invading” mobike lobbies and games are gonna take evev longer ti start if players only played against players who are on the same device
another solution is to just detect linux, or detect if you’re controller, mobile, or kbm, regardless of platform
