Murderer can't kill in teleporter

What is the bug?
My friend & me were standuing in the teleporter to complete our quest.
The murderer couldn’t kill us with his sword when we both were standing in the teleporter together. However it was possible for him to kill me with the nether star.
The guy he killed with the sword was a different player leaving the teleporter.
