Golden apples only give absorption once

What is the bug?
When you eat the severely underpowered golden apple in The Bridge
you gain two absorption hearts. When you lose those absorption hearts you don’t lose the absorption effect.
The next time you eat a golden apple you don’t get absorption.
The effect finally clears when someone scores a point.

Device(s) & Version
This is a Minecraft ‘feature’ but if it matters I play on Switch
